Gray Jacobik, a finalist in Narrative’s Second Annual Poetry Contest, is the author of several poetry collections, including The Double Task, winner of the Juniper Prize; Brave Disguises, winner of the AWP Poetry Series Award; and Little Boy Blue (2011). Born in Newport News, Virginia, she received a BA from Goddard College and an MA and PhD from Brandeis University. She is professor emerita at Eastern Connecticut State University, where she taught literature for many years. Jacobik, also an accomplished painter, lives in Deep River, Connecticut.

Doisneau might have eyed and shot us
for how brazenly and rapaciously we kissed,
my red pumps akimbo on the cobbles,
you peeling off my silvery raincoat,
the poplars in the Bois de Boulogne
blowing trombones, trumpets, cornets.
