David Hinton is a poet and a translator of classical Chinese poetry whose work is known for conveying the texture and density of the originals. In addition, he has translated four influential masterworks of Chinese philosophy, including the Tao Te Ching. Translator and editor of Classical Chinese Poetry: An Anthology, he received the Landon Translation Award from the Academy of American Poets and the PEN Translation Award from the PEN American Center. Hinton is a fellow at the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers in New York City and lives in Vermont.
