Vincent Guerra grew up in Northern California. He earned an MFA in poetry from Washington University in St. Louis and is at work on a PhD at Florida State University. A finalist in Narrative’s Fourth Annual Poetry Contest, Guerra lives in Tallahassee, where he teaches writing.

gift of someone who loved me
to release my feet
in the needles and engine oil
this pine path to the shore
where children in swimsuits
crawl about the unsteady rocks
