Emma Gorenberg earned an MFA in poetry from the University of Michigan and has a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. She won Second Place in Narrative’s Third Annual Poetry Contest. Gorenberg lives in Philadelphia, where she writes with the poetry collaboration WCWPCCS.

And because memory does not fall away as plainly

as we want,
because it breathes, caught in a surge of water, it nets together:
copper dish, lumber yard, green glass jar. Three men caught
too, their hair a big whoop in the air, red as iron rust.
