Jodie Marion’s poetry appears in Best New Poets 2011, and she received the 2011 Paula Jones Gardiner Memorial Award from Floating Bridge Press. In addition, she was a finalist in Narrative’s Third Annual Poetry Contest. Born in Florida, Marion now lives in Portland, Oregon, where she graduated from the Attic Institute’s Atheneum Master Writing Program.

Why I Want to Be a Docent at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky


My neighbor’s daughter was born with a gill on her neck.
Just the body remembering how it used to be, a doctor said.
Nothing a little surgery won’t fix.
In family photos we are never smiling all at once.
