In those dark hours of silence your letters unfolded as images
swimming in the gentle current of Haditha Dam removed of the weight of your military uniform—the flak-vest Kevlar and insignia—the elemental movements of your high school body extended slow is smooth smooth is quick as you cut through the surface impelling yourself buoyant and unresisting the water holding

    you as before
