Carol Moldaw is the author of the novel The Widening, as well as seven poetry collections, including Go Figure (Four Way Books 2024), Beauty Refracted, and So Late, So Soon: New and Selected Poems. A recipient of a Lannan Foundation Marfa Writer’s Residency and a Pushcart Prize, Moldaw lives with her husband and daughter in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and teaches privately.

Abandoned buildings decompose
like compost in Delhi’s fabled heat.

Traffic-stalled, transfixed, I watch
a man and woman clap and pound
brick against brick in an empty lot—
