Tove Jansson

The Summer Book

by Tove Jansson, translated by Thomas Teal
(Fiction; New York Review Books, 2008)

Tove Jansson is best known for her series of children’s books about the Moomins, a family of Scandinavian hippopotamus-like creatures that live, laugh, and learn together—for an American equivalent think Arthur the Aardvark. And, like the Arthur books, the Moomin books are so popular that they were turned into a TV series, not to mention an amusement park, Muumimaailma (Moomin World), in Finland.
