Fady Joudah is the author of The Earth in the Attic, winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets competition, Alight, and Textu, a collection of poems written on a cell phone. In addition he has translated the work of prominent Palestinian poets Mahmoud Darwish and Ghassan Zaqtan. Joudah lives with his family in Houston, where he is an emergency room physician.

                            wouldn’t hurt a spider
That had nested
Between her bicycle handles
For two weeks
She waited
Until it left of its own accord
