Henry Brooks studies at Harvard University, where he writes a column, “Socially Liberal, Fiscally Liberal.” He attended the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio to study poetry and fiction. Originally from northern Virginia and Los Angeles, he lives in Boston.

We ran along the risen bank of Dead Run,
stopping on occasion to horse-kick
at a sagging ledge and watch it slide down—
through the dusk water, to the creek floor.
