Shangyang Fang grew up in Chengdu, China, and composes poems in both English and Chinese. He completed an undergraduate degree in civil engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign, and is a poetry fellow at the Michener Center for Writers (2019). He lives in Austin, Texas.

Fish

It wasn’t me who killed the fish.
             It was the soup. It was a sin to drink it.
Not to mention the flesh. A greater sin.
             And a greater indulgence.
