Leo Goodyear was born in San Francisco and has lived most of his life in the Bay Area, with a few long-term stints in France, Canada, and Mexico. He earned an MA in English and an MFA in fiction from San Francisco State University.

I met Mike at the funeral of my lover, the executive Mr. John Jameson, who died of sinus cancer. Within a month of the diagnosis, John went blind. Within six weeks, he was dead. I never saw him blind or dying, only heard about it at the office, because he stopped working after he got sick. His wife, whom he had once described to me as an agoraphobic sea witch, tended to him.
