Yaccaira Salvatierra, poet, translator, and educator, received the Dorrit Sibley Award for achievement in poetry as well as the Puerto del Sol Poetry Prize. She holds a master’s from San Jose State University and is an MFA candidate at Randolph College in Virginia. Born in Los Angeles, she lives in Oakland, California.

Like hundreds of moths
             brushing and bumping
             their mossy wings
                                       and maned bodies against wood-
                                       paneled walls, something
                          sounded from one of the rooms
                          rented out by three of the men.
