fever dream sonnet with Francesca Woodman

by Anthony Thomas Lombardi
the patron saints who line the plank could capsize the ship
saved from their own good luck. what does this teach us
of mercy? sins rinsed like a mouse trapped in honey or Daphne
blessed with arms turned to brambles. sometimes i’m left winded
& full of wonder like the man penniless on his deathbed
who unfolds his fingers to reveal a diamond in his palm.
